Spirulina! The little blue-green micro algae that everyone is buzzing about. We all know that having a colourful, balanced diet is they way forward for our health. There are many wonderful ‘Superfoods’ out there that we can add into our lifestyle.

Superfoods are plant based foods that are rich in antioxidants and contain a very high nutritional value in a small amount of food. For example, white bread is not a superfood, as it is highly processed, refined wheat and it has no major nutritional benefits for the body. Whole foods like Quinoa, Kale, Blueberries and Avocados however, are loaded with complete proteins, vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and fibre.
In addition to a clean whole food diet, people may like to take supplements or support their bodies with Superfoods, perhaps to help ward off illnesses, support exercise, immunity, deficiencies and even defend from Cancer. Taking high potency foods like Spirulina is renowned to be beneficial for all round health and even beauty.

THE SPECIAL ON SPIRULINA
SO, WHAT IS IT?
Spirulina is a blue-green micro algae. It’s unusual name is due to its spiral shaped cell structure.
AND WHAT’S IN IT?
It is one of the best vegan, bioavailable sources of complete protein. 60-70%!
It is packed with Chlorophyll, or what we like to call the ‘blood of plants’. Chlorophyll alkalises the body, increases red blood cell count, oxygenates the body and helps bind heavy metals.
Loaded with Iron, B vitamins and beta-carotene.
HOW CAN IT HELP?
An Iron rich supplement for those who suffer with fatigue and Anaemia.
Source of B vitamins, especially B12. These help regulate hormones and provide sustained energy.
Amazing to take after your workout. Spirulina’s high protein content helps boost recovery and build strong muscles.
Excellent for those who wish to lose and control their weight as it curbs cravings, making you less likely to reach for sugar.
Helps regulate blood sugar levels, supports the Kidneys, Liver and Thyroid.
Helps maintain bright, clear and well nourished skin.
HOW TO USE IT?
Powder form Spirulina can be mixed into a little water with juice of 1/2 a squeezed lemon for a potent shot!
It has a very… distinctive taste, which isn’t everybody's favourite, this is when tablet form comes in very handy!
Can be nicely disguised in juices, smoothies, milks, baking and raw desserts.
