We had the delight of hosting a Pukka Herbs Ayurvedic evening at Elixir last night, for an informative talk learning all about how to reduce pain and inflammation naturally. We understood the principles of traditional Ayurvedic medicine along with leading a healthy lifestyle. We shared goodie bags, tastings, pukka tea’s and a dosha quiz!

We learned the characteristics of each 'dosha' and what dosha you are, depending on your body type and personal habits.
The three dosha’s are
Vata
Pitta
Kapha
Pukka herbs have an online dosha quiz so you can find out more about what they are, which one you are and discover more about you! It is really interesting to see which foods you should eat or stay clear of, to help balance your mind and body for optimum health.
The spotlight of the night was all on turmeric and how it is probably one of the most healing spices you will ever come across. It seems that everyone has been buzzing about turmeric recently, and we certainly have too, with Pukka’s latest turmeric launch. See our previous blog post HERE to read more about their new herbal tea and range of turmeric supplements, as well as all the medicinal benefits of this fantastic spice.

One of our favourite ways to enjoy turmeric is in a delicious, healing latte. It’s spicy, warming and subtly sweet, perfect to drink any time of day for a caffeine free, inflammation fighting treat! It is also a great for adding extra flavour to soups, smoothies, curries, salad dressings, baking, hummus, dips and sauces!

Ingredients
2 cups coconut milk (you can use any nut milk)
1tbsp brown rice syrup (you can use honey)
1 tsp turmeric powder (or 4 opened pukka wholistic turmeric capsules)
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp cinnamon
dash of nutmeg
1 tsp coconut oil
Sharing is caring, makes 2 servings.

Prep
You will need a small pan, spoon for stirring and a small spare cup.

How we did it
1. Pour the milk into a pan with the coconut oil and start to heat it gently on a low heat.
2. In a separate cup, mix a splash of nut milk with the turmeric, and other spices, so you get a bright yellow paste. This helps to get rid of lumps.
3. Add the paste to the milk and continue to heat.
4. Once the milk is at your favourite drinking temperature, add your sweetener and stir in well.
5. Pour into your favourite mug and enjoy your golden healing beverage!

ELIXIR TIP: If you prefer a thicker latte, switch your syrup of choice with a couple of juicy medjool dates and switch the coconut oil for 1tsp almond butter. Simply blend with step 2 in a food processor to make a thicker paste then add to the milk!
