Maintaining optimum health is something we all strive for and adopting a healthier lifestyle is a great way to start. We highly recommend to eat yourself well with plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables and whole foods, as well as staying clear from refined sugar, fizzy drinks and processed junk foods. Thankfully, more and more people are becoming aware of how important the health of our gut is and the huge impact it has on the wellness of our body. Our gut is responsible for keeping our body running efficiently and is also responsible for a whopping 70-80% of our immune system.

UPSET GUT = low immunity + skin issues + poor digestion + hormone imbalances.

  • Prone to colds and infections?

  • Acne, rosacea, eczema?

  • IBS, leaky gut, food intolerances?

  • PCOS, irregular cycles, infertility?

  • Candida?

These are only a handful of health issues which people may be suffering from and could be in connection with an unbalanced gut. Luckily, alongside leading healthy and active lifestyle, there are many of natures miracles which can help heal and protect, including digestive health supplements, soothers & probiotics. These not only ease symptoms of IBS, heartburn and intolerances, they help to TREAT them too.

Here are our top inside elixirs for getting the inside job done!

Silicol Gel

Silicol gel is a natural colloidal solution of silicic acid, which helps to treat gastrointestinal disorders such as heartburn, bloating, gas, stomach ache, IBS. It is also very effective for acid reflux as it reduces excess acid in the stomach. Silicol soothes and protects the stomach lining, as well as binding and absorbing unwanted bacteria and harmful toxins out of the gut. If you are prone to frequent stomach pain, acid reflux, gas and bloating, then this is a highly effective and fast acting treatment.

Pukka Aloe Vera Gel & Tablets

Aloe is an incredibly medicinal plant, it’s anti-bacterial, anti-biotic, anti-septic, anti-viral, a detoxifier and skin healer! Aloe gel has a wonderfully beneficial action on bowel function, which helps to treat and prevent many digestive issues, by actively promoting healthy and regular elimination. It improves overall gut health due to its cooling and alkalising and anti-inflammatory properties. This is because it soothes the digestive tract and keeps healthy intestinal flora in balance. Aloe contains many vitamins including A, C, E and B’s along with other active substances which prevent growth of disease causing microorganisms. Aloe vera also enhances the absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream.

Slippery Elm

Slippery elm is an affective and gentle herbal remedy, used to help relieve gastrointestinal conditions such as IBS, Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis. When slippery elm is mixed with water it forms into a mucilage gel, which coats and soothes irritation in the mouth, throat, stomach and intestines. It not only gently nourishes and heals internal mucosal tissues, it can also be used externally to treat wounds, burns, cold sores and other skin conditions.

L-Glutamine

L-Glutamine is an amino acid, essential for the necessary growth and repair of your intestinal gut lining. It acts as a protective coat, effective for healing conditions such as leaky gut, IBS and ulcers. Leaky gut is when your digestive tract lining gets damaged, letting unwanted particles into your blood stream. This can lead to sensitivity to certain foods such as wheat and dairy, impaired immunity and autoimmune disease. L-Glutamine also helps control sugar and alcohol cravings. Avoiding or limiting these inflammatory causing foods anyway will also promote a healthier environment for the good bacteria living in your gut

Zinc

Believe it or not it is incredibly common for people to be deficient in zinc. People with a zinc deficiency may suffer from thinning hair, weak nails and even digestive disturbances. This means that the body may struggle to digest protein as zinc is needed for producing strong stomach acids. Too weaker stomach acids results in food not being broken down properly and the body cannot thrive as the nutrients are not being absorbed. There is a very easy at home test you can do to see if you are deficient. We have the Lamberts Zinc test available in store.

Psyllium Husks

Psyllium husks are a natural form of fibre from the seeds of the Plantago Ovata plant. We like to call them natures laxative, so for those who are suffering with chronic constipation, this is the remedy for you! Psyllium is a bulk-forming laxative, which quickly soaks up water, forming a mucilage gel (similar to chia seeds). It helps to cleanse the colon by pushing out stubborn waste, making bowel movements much more comfortable. The dietary fibre in these husks can help to relieve constipation, IBS, Colitis, prevent diarrhoea and soothe inflammation. Taken it regularly promotes regularity in the bathroom, however you must remember to drink lots of water when taking psyllium for it to work efficiently. We like BonPom and Pukka Fibre, which contains pysllium, soothing aloe vera and other herbs which really helps to cleanse and move things along! They also help you feel more full, which will prevent overeating and unwanted cravings.

Apple cider vinegar, probiotics and digestive enzymes are also very high up on our list of gut healing remedies. You can read more about apple cider vinegar and probiotics on our previous wellness posts here and here. Our gut is full of billions and trillions of different strains of bacteria, which are essential for normal gastrointestinal function. This promotes efficient food digestion, regulated metabolism and protection from infections. We strongly believe that everybody should consider taking a probiotic supplement, to help the friendly guys in your gut thrive, so you can too!
