Smoothies are a delicious and easy way to pack in lots of micronutrients into one snack or meal. Most smoothies are primarily fruit based, with high sugar fruits such as bananas, dates, mangos and pineapple. Don’t get us wrong we love fruit, they are loaded with lots of essential vitamins and beautifying nutrients. However, the high sugar content can often do more harm than good. For example, just one medium banana can have up to 14 grams of sugar.

Unfortunately there are many people who cannot tolerate high amounts of fructose and carbohydrate rich foods in their diet. Here are just a few of the main health problems linked to high sugar intake:
Candida overgrowth
Hormone imbalances such as PCOS
Insulin Resistance
Diabetes
Gut problems such as IBS
Skin disorders such as acne
Weight problems
Sugar spikes your sensitivity to a hormone called insulin. When your body becomes resistant to this hormone, your body starts to store sugar as fat, rather than burn it off. This results in you craving more, and lets face it, it is a slippery slope!
Take a look at how Dr. Josh Axe explains 4 simple steps to help you overcome sugar cravings. He talks about Insulin resistance and how to stabilise your blood sugar levels for optimum health.
